Kate,
We cannot get through with the phone number you left for us.
It keeps on telling us to try later. I don't like using the blog for this but I got this from another parent. I have read that Cameroon has recently changed its phone system so that old numbers starting with certain digits (2 or 3 , for example) have been changed to numbers starting with 5,6,7 or 9. The number we at first thought was correct for reaching Becca begins with a 7, so we thought it should be correct. When that didn't work, we reversed two digits (the ones that we'd written down when the static was the worst and Becca was repeating) to a number beginning with 4. When we dialed that number, we got a recording that, in essence, tells you a number to call to obtain the new number that corresponds to an old number. We tried calling the number for obtaining new numbers corresponding to old numbers and also could not get through.
Jim, I think it's possible that telephones and SIM cards with "old" Cameroonian numbers might have been sold to our daughters (Becca took a GSM phonewith her but still had to buy a SIM card in country). If anyone else manages to sepak to his or her volunteer, could you please ask your volunteer to pass a message to Becca Hartog and Kate Legner that they possibly have a phone/SIM card with an "old style" Cameroon phone number and that MAY be the reason we couldn't get through. Thanks.
So glad to hear that you arrived safe and sound. I enjoy your interesting insights from the day to day adventures. Nice that you got to talk with Mrs. Kurth on your way to Philly.... Peace.
Your friend, Scott (Miles)
Your trip sounds so exciting...it sounds like you are really doing a lot of different stuff. I am proud to be your friend.
I understand about defending your accent, but the other person was right, we dont actually have accents, its everyone else.
Good luck with everything, Brad
I'm so excited for you Kate! I hope that everything is going really well and that you're having amazing experiences.
PS Tyler's mom is thinking about starting a Cameroonian adoption program, and she was really interested in your experiences there. I hope it's okay that I gave her your link!
